This one is easy. YES. YES. YES. no 'it depends'. Parents or friends, even expert skiers, can NOT effectively teach their own kid to ski... not because of the skill but because of the personality/drama involved... it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Put them in ski school and let them make new friends and be taught by someone that they respect and don't feel judged by. After a few lessons, then you can decide if you want to keep going.

But lessons in general are something that EVERYONE should do at all levels to increase their enjoyment of the sport.
